Customizing your vehicle
Every panel of a car is a separate, interchangeable part you can swap. This guide covers finding parts, installing them, and painting your ride to make it your own.
1 · Find parts
Every car is built from separate parts, and any part fits any vehicle — so you can mix, match and rebuild freely. Parts turn up roadside and at points of interest, but the richest sources are the garage and the Chameleon Station Garage, where you'll find whole cars, wheels, tires, engines and more. Fluid containers, spray paint and tools are usually nearby too.
2 · Install and remove parts
Pick up a part with left-click. To fit it, move the cursor onto the matching slot until the tooltip reads "ATTACH", then left-click. Open the hood the same way (hover, hold left-click, drag up) to reach the engine, radiator, battery and turbo. Remove a worn or wrong part with right-click and slot in a better one — this is how you do engine swaps and full restorations.
3 · Clean and paint
Before painting, scrub off rust and dirt with a brush or sponge (each wears out with use) for a clean finish. Then use a spray-paint can on the body and most parts — you can even paint your shirt. For a custom colour, load an empty can plus red, green and blue cartridges into the Paint-tron 9000 and mix your own shade.
Full restoration
- Beyond quick fixes, you can fully restore a car by finding and fitting every one of its original parts in the correct slots — the GTR alone has 57 parts. It's a satisfying long-term project, and completing one unlocks that vehicle's Restorer achievement.
- Parts are interchangeable, but a car looks "stock" only with its own original parts; hunt them down at the garage, points of interest and roadside wrecks.
- Damaged or rusty parts still work — clean them with a brush or sponge and repaint to make a rebuild look factory-fresh.
Tips
Restoring a car to all of its original parts unlocks that vehicle's "Restorer" achievement — a great long-term goal for any car you grow attached to.
